Varnish Overlays

Varnish overlays use the same concept as thermal transfer

monochrome ribbon. Varnish overlay consist of: polyester foil

(carrier), special backcoat, and ink. The ink transfer can be done

by a printhead or by a hot roller (P520i Lamination station).

2 polyester foil : it is the carrier

3 the ink is often a 3 to 4 coats :

• wax release coat

• emboss coat

• high refractive index coating (metal layer)
